Tucked away in a developing neighbourhood surrounding Bangalore’s largest lake — Bellandur Lake — is Sobha Marvella. A decade ago Bellandur was a ghost town with ramshackle buildings and hutments. But today, tall buildings, sprawling apartments and malls — the epitome of civilisation — have sprung up thanks to the information technology influx.

It would be criminal to not take advantage of the space that this part of suburban Bangalore offers. That’s why comfortable design rules: large pieces with sink-into-me cushions in soothing hues. We love how white and navy is interspersed through multiple elements through this home.

The high ceilings ensure the space feels cavernous. But the highlight is the open plan dining and kitchen, which is fabulous for eating, playing and entertaining for a young family. Adding to the pleasing mix are track lights and pendants to soften the clean lines and jaw-dropping exposed brick walls.

Mustard pops

Warm oak underfoot highlights the navy and white play that rules the home. Mustard pops is an intriguingly in the otherwise calming palette.

The living is compact but wears sublime detailing — like the hair pin legs of the coffee and side tables, the mid century modern profile of the mustard single seater pair and the leather three seater. Centering all the elements is the ink blue rug, which complements the navy accent wall. The white of the exposed brick wall is repeated through the decor to ensure cohesiveness.

Navy weavesBangalore interior design_suspended staircase

The suspended staircase is chic to the core thanks to its floating-like appearance. The typographical decal gives the open plan space a young vibe.

The open plan dining and kitchen made us weak in the knees. Large windows on opposing walls keep the space nice and bright, while a combination of track lights and industrial pendants ensure light spills into every nook and cranny.

The navy walls contrast the cerused pale blue finish of the dining room cabinets. The gracious curves of the dining chairs offset the simplicity of the farm table.

Navy is weaved into the kitchen shutters as well. But the kitchen island takes the cake for its versatility as a work counter while cooking, a trendy breakfast table at other times and a bar counter for parties.

Motley textures and hues

The denim-hued rug, the headboard, ottoman and accent wall mirror each other in terms of tone, while the exposed brick wall, the barn-like slats of the wardrobe and the linen contrast each other in terms of texture.

The master has an ethereal quality, which is amplified by the application of more white and less navy. However, It’s layered with a spectrum of navy hues and motley white textural surfaces. The exposed legs of the sleek work desk, chair and the side tables also contribute to the minimality of the scheme.

Blushing pastels

In the navy scheme of things, the trio of pendant lights and the side table instantaneously draw the eyes.

The only bedroom to get a dose of color. It has a whimsical feel but is sharpened by a mix of quirky elements. The disproportionate heights of the side table and box bed allow its mint-y-ness to stand out.

Navy continues to dominate the room. However, as the accent wall behind the bed, it allows the eye to travel further up creating the illusion of an headboard.
