Frequent travels teach you so much about life that you otherwise are oblivious about in closed doors. From food to culture, you take back snippets of your journey home. When we got talking with Deepti Srivastava and her family of three, they couldn’t agree more.

Deepti and her husband, Fayaz are a well-travelled couple and it’s no wonder that their globe-trotting experiences have translated into their beautiful interiors. Their two bedroom apartment in upscale Ireo Uptown in Gurgaon has been treated to crisp white interiors that resonate with transitional styles making it a relaxed, functional and sophisticated home.

A stunning assimilation of industrial, rustic, contemporary and Scandinavian design is seen in this open plan living and dining.

Livspace interior designer Pulkit Manchanda was elated when he met the couple. Their impeccable taste and love for Scandinavian design only propelled him to carve out a gorgeous, minimalist and functional home.

The open plan space comprises a spacious living-dining area that surprisingly allows for intimate conversations. A timeless Scandinavian dining table with channelled upholstered armless chairs and a standout bench in plaid immediately catches the eye — more so because they are so far away from the Indian aesthetic.

The only caveat? Pulkit had to work their global aesthetics around their existing furniture. Their bulky leather couch posed a huge conundrum. So, Pulkit complemented it with a mid-century modern coffee table and a chic contemporary TV unit, which resulted in a fascinating mix of styles.

The distressed cerulean storage unit and sideboard add to the quirky mix of styles.

We love how the textured caramel wall allows the distressed cerulean storage unit and sideboard to pop against it.

Pulkit paid special attention to the layers of light. Wall sconces and ambient lights like the gorgeous filament bulbs above the dining area ensure every nook and cranny is well lit even on melancholic winter days. Deepti’s insistence on crisp white interior design has only visually opened up their home making it look a lot more spacious.

The bed without a headboard makes way for classic wooden wainscoting trims that add oodles of drama. A pair of pendant lights and wall sconces highlight a photo gallery of their family trips.

The crisp white walls continue into their master bedroom. The classic French wainscoting panels double up as a beautiful headboard. Since the family of three globe trots, Pulkit had tonnes of their pictures framed and hung at a convenient spot for them to reminisce.

Chic yet fuss-free, Pulkit worked meticulously to interpret the couple’s travels. The result? A home that brims with a fusion of styles that isn’t overwhelming but mimics the bedrock of minimalism in every part of their home.

“It was wonderful to have clients that are so well read about design, and are very sure from the get go about how their interiors should look. But it’s also a huge challenge since the fear of not living up to their expectation always creeps in. ”
