A mix of modern and traditional design elements styled in soothing, welcoming hues – Babu Poovan knew exactly what he wanted for his new apartment ever since he acquired it in February last year. Coming from a background in architecture himself, Babu was eagerly on the lookout for an interior designer who could instantly capture his imagination. A friend’s suggestion led him to Livspace and before he knew it, his dream home was ready within weeks.

With a deft hand, interior designer Swathi Suresh gave them a home that used diverse design elements – contemporary sofas, traditional light fixtures, zen-inspired dining area etc. – and yet had a perfectly pulled together look.

A textured, golden accent wall adds excitement and provides the perfect canvas for displaying family photos. Floating shelves and a neutral hued TV panel blend in with the living room’s light and airy theme.

Babu had repeatedly stressed that his home should be easy to clean and maintain, so Swathi steered clear of large, clunky furniture and fixtures. To make the most of the small living area, she decided to go for an L-shaped sectional sofa and a pair of ottomans instead of conventional sofa sets. A simple coffee table with a glass top also added to the illusion of spaciousness.

For a hint of opulence, Swathi chose traditional, golden light fixtures that complemented the accent wall and beautifully contrasted with the furniture below. Babu had insisted on a chandelier and Swathi added a multipurpose fan-cum-chandelier with a British era appeal.

The compact, zen-inspired dining set with its angular design and immaculate finish takes centerstage in this space replete with wood finishes

Mealtimes are fun and conversations flow seamlessly in this open floor plan where the kitchen and dining area are in close proximity. Most homes prefer light coloured false ceiling, but Swathi installed a rich, delectable wooden panel over the dining area along with a pendant light to warm up the space.

The crockery unit pairs beautifully with the dining set and floating shelves gives further scope to personalize the space.

A delectable mix of ivory, cream and brown defines the relaxed tone of this master bedroom.

Babu absolutely loves how the master bedroom caters to his every need. A large, sprawling bed provides the perfect spot to catch a nap, watch TV or read a book. Stylish sliding wardrobe and under the bed storage provides ample space to keep clothes, bedding essentials and more.

Multiple shelves give the couple plenty of space to showcase photos, accent pieces and a cozy study lets them work out of home whenever the need arises.

Doused in pink and white, two-year-old Ivansikaa’s bedroom is a happy place to learn and play in.

It was Deepa’s idea to include something in Ivansikaa’s room that is both pretty and interactive. Swathi added a unique wallpaper featuring english alphabets, cartoon animals and more. A single bed with stars on the headboard bring a touch of whimsy to the space.

A white wardrobe with loft provides plenty of space for Ivansikaa’s clothes, books, toys etc. A small study is just what she needs when she starts going to school.

“Babu Poovan and family are the best clients I have had the pleasure of working with. They had simple tastes and so I added subtle design elements that reflected the same. Simple and stylish, their home is a cozy heaven the family will enjoy for years to come”
