7 Super Easy Bathroom Cleaning Tips
Bathrooms always seem like the the hardest spaces to clean at home. Putting it off is not a viable option either as they are prone to dirt, grout and germs that can cause infection. Worry not! We’ve put together some bathroom cleaning tips that are so easy to follow, you can instantly add them to your regular home cleaning routine:
Bathroom cleaning tip #1: Shower
Showerheads often tend to clog due to minerals in hard water — a common occurrence in Indian metro cities.
Fill a plastic bag with undiluted white vinegar and submerge the showerhead in it. Secure it with a rubber band and let it soak overnight. Clean it with a bit of toothpaste the next day and it will look as good as new.
Bathroom cleaning tip #2: Sink and faucets
A simple two-step process is all it takes to clean the sink.
Wipe it down with a dry cloth to remove dust and hair. Scrub baking soda on areas with stains, crusted toothpaste etc. Finish up by rinsing thoroughly with water. Just like showerheads, clean faucets with a cloth dabbed in vinegar.
Bathroom cleaning tip #3: Countertop and cabinets
Put away all your toiletries, unplug your hair styling and grooming tools and remove decorative accents from your countertops and cabinets to hasten the cleaning process. Proceed to dry dusting.
For countertops, use an all-purpose cleaner. A floor or tile cleaner should do the job. Spray the solution on paper towels and wipe down.
Keep your cabinets well organised always so that cleaning takes less time. For shelves that are infrequently used, wipe clean and drop a couple of silica gel packets to keep mold and insects at bay.
Bathroom cleaning tip #4: Floor and ceiling
The grout lines between bathroom tiles is a hotbed for germs. Clean it with a water and vinegar solution or some baking soda paste. Let it sit for a few minutes before cleaning with warm water.
You could alternatively scrub it clean with a mouthwash. Also, do not forget to wipe the corners where hair and dust tend to collect the most.
For ceilings, use a long-handle duster to get rid of cobwebs, dust collected on top of cabinets and light fixtures etc.
Bathroom cleaning tip #5: Mirror
Mirrors often get sprayed with water when using the sink or get streaked after a hot water shower. Spray the mirror with glass cleaners and wipe down with a newspaper for a stain-free shine.
Bathroom cleaning tip #6: Curtains
If you have shower curtains, put them in for a wash at regular intervals. Germs and bacteria can easily grow in the moist bathroom conditions, especially if there is no ventilation.
Bathroom cleaning tip #7: Toilet bowl
The most tedious part of the cleaning process is the toilet. Use your regular cleaner and disinfectant, leave it for 20 minutes and do a thorough scrubbing. Use an old toothbrush to clean the underside of the rims and other places that can’t be reached by the toilet brush.
You could also drop a couple of antacid tablets or empty a bottle of cola into the toilet bowl. Let it sit for 15-10 minutes. This makes the cleaning process so much easier.
With these bathroom cleaning tips you can easily create a safe and sanitised environment for your home’s inhabitants and guests.
