This simple, uncluttered condo design is elder-friendly and wheelchair-accessible. Taking inspiration from the lush green surroundings, it’s filled with neutral colours and plenty of wooden elements.

This home belongs to Amy and Marcus who put a lot of thought into deciding on their newest home, and finally agreed upon a resale condo with enough space for themselves and their children, as well as Amy’s elderly parents. They wanted an interior designer who would understand their specific requirements and help them design a home that was suited to the needs of Amy’s parents. During the course of their hunt for the right designer, they came across Andrea Rodriguez, one of the best Livspace designers on the team. And that is how they entrusted their condo design into her safe hands.

Amy and Marcus’ Feng Shui master had already dictated certain sections of the layout. Using these as the starting point, Andrea and her Livspace design team went on to create a simple, uncluttered design that’s completely wheelchair accessible. The condo’s woody interior design augments the environment surrounding the Riversails project – a huge belt of greenery, parks and a waterway.

With the right lighting, the living room opens up

Our homeowners are in love with their living room. When they opted for a minimal, clutter-free design, little did they know that such a peaceful yet gorgeous room was coming their way! The family, together with the Livspace design team, opted for a neutral colour palette and matched it with natural materials. Andrea suggested weaving a design around existing fixtures like the fan.

The feature wall in the living room comes with a batten wall made of oak wood, with vinyl wall covering and laminates to add the perfect finishing touch. A mirror panel makes the room look more spacious.

Since the family shares the wall with neighbours, the Livspace team ensured that it is a non load-bearing wall. Oak flutes were secured to add a touch of warmth to the space. The seamless design ensures that no nail or screw holes remain visible. Recessed lights as well as profile lighting highlight the wall, showing the need for the right living room lighting.

In order to ensure that the living room in this condo design remains clutter-free and wheelchair-accessible, Andrea and the family agreed upon a centred furniture layout. This home lacks a dedicated dining room to ensure more open spaces.

“Andrea tends to listen first before sharing her ideas. Her transparency and assurance not to mention ensuring the quality in all materials provided, makes this whole reno experience very pleasant. Both Andrea and Kent have earned out trust. We are now left with the rectification works after the COVID situation eases; we are confident that Andrea and Livspace will continue to see to the completion of it.”

In order to ensure that the whole house is wheelchair-accessible, Amy and Marcus wanted the balcony flooring to be re-decked, making it level with the living room floor. And they couldn’t be happier about it! Now Amy’s parents can freely choose to relax in the balcony or the living room, as they wish. This lets them appreciate the lush greenery and waterway surrounding the Riversails to the fullest!

A seamless kitchen design

Large ceramic tiles for a seamless backsplash

The kitchen in this condo resale is as seamless as can be. A cool shade of grey adds a touch of colour to the otherwise white space. Herry and Andrea agreed upon large ceramic tiles for the splashback. In keeping with the smooth appearance of the kitchen, they added a quartz countertop to tie the space together. The L-shaped kitchen comes with distinct zones for washing, prepping and cooking, with the hob and oven placed close by for easy access.

Common room with space to work or laze about

A space to relax by the window

Since Amy and Marcus wanted ample space for home offices, Herry and Andrea suggested a customised study unit-cum-lounge. Like the rest of the house, the furniture in this room is largely white in colour. This comfortable place with minimal white condo wall allows them to work with a calm mind. The mesh chair suits the body posture and the couch helps them relax for some time while working.

The bright white colour scheme in this condo design opens up spaces, while simultaneously making everything easily visible and elderly-friendly.

A dedicated study

Minimal distractions for an effective home office

Amy and Marcus wanted to convert the spare bedroom into a study. So Andrea suggested an all-white study table and rack. She left the study with ample empty space so that books and other study material can be placed there.

Lightweight and moveable, this compact home office has ample space for just the essentials with minimal distractions.

The white colour of the room helps in concentrating, and the minimal design of the room ensures that you stay focussed on the task at hand. Moreover, if the family chooses to utilise the room otherwise, they can easily accommodate this unit in a bedroom.

Ceramic tiles on the walls and floor for a waterproof space

This condo design comes with three bathrooms – ensuites for the master bedroom and junior master, as well as a common one. While the design style remains largely similar across bathrooms, each has been modified to make the most of space.

For example, the Livspace team suggested the removal of the door frame in the common bathroom to make for a wider doorway. This ensures wheelchair access to the bathroom, which was a necessity for this family.

The bathrooms come with Italian ceramic tiles on both the walls and the floor. This makes the space virtually waterproof. Moreover, the vanity units have quartz tops and laminate finishes, that make for long-lasting bathrooms. The laminate finishes ensure that maintaining the bathrooms becomes easy. Moreover, by demarcating wet and dry areas, the bathroom floors are less slippery. The master and junior master bathroom also makes ample use of white to make things look brighter, thus making them more elder-friendly.

“The homeowners wanted a simple design that allowed plenty of space to move. We kept their requirements foremost in our mind while crafting this condo design. The family was receptive to our ideas and appreciated the detailed work, making it an enjoyable experience for us.”
