Even if you’re not someone who cooks elaborate meals, or even cooks regularly, the kitchen is still an extremely crucial part of your home. A good kitchen design consists of three factors—aesthetic appeal, ergonomics and functionality. At first glance, this kitchen stands out for its dark colour palette. However, apart from looking striking and unique, there is so much more to this kitchen! Read on to find out.

IN A NUTSHELL

Design Brief

To design a simple home in a dark colour theme with sufficient storage

What We Loved

The use of a monochromatic colour palette with wooden accents

Look Out for

– The under-cabinet lighting
–  Dark green subway tiles in the backsplash

#1: Let’s Start With the Layout

An L-shaped kitchen provides ample storage and prepping space

Your designer can install an extra counter to give you more storage in the kitchen

The main challenge with this kitchen was the small space and the fixed layout. The homeowner loved to cook and wanted a kitchen that would fit all her requirements. So, our designer, Vythiswari made the most of the L-shaped layout by adding handleless cabinetry. Additionally, she also built an extra cabinet on the opposite end to provide more prepping and storage space.

#2: Moving On to Space Efficiency

A tall unit helps in providing extra storage

Every designer knows that the real challenge lies in adding storage into a compact space without making the room look bulky. To ensure Binny never runs out of storage, Vythiswari installed upper and lower cabinets as well as an extra unit. However, she opted for a handleless design to avoid a bulky look. Moreover, she also installed a tall unit, and inserted the refrigerator inside the nook created by the unit, thereby saving space.

#3: Smart Kitchen Accessories You’ll Love!

These help in organisation

A kitchen needs to be functional and it’s the accessories that help in achieving this functionality. To maximise efficiency, Vythiswari packed Binny’s kitchen with multiple kitchen accessories. These include a spacious tall unit and drawers that help in organisation.

#4: A Dark and Delicious Colour Palette

The green backsplash adds a pop as well as texture

Black isn’t a very common option for the colour of your kitchen. However, Binny’s kitchen proves that this edgy colour can elevate your basic space and transform it into a contemporary and sophisticated kitchen. Vythiswari tells us that the homeowners wanted a dark theme for their kitchen. Therefore, she chose black and combined it with dark wood laminate to add warmth and texture. Additionally, she chose dark green subway tiles for the backsplash to elevate the space.
