After 10 long years in Delhi, Harpreet Singh and family were more than delighted when they moved into their new apartment in Gurgaon. Proximity to Harpreet’s office and a sprawling kitchen where Preet and the kids could indulge in their love for cooking helped seal the deal.
To Harpreet’s mind, the only thing that was missing was a designer’s touch. The hunt for professionals took the couple through plenty of turnkey contractors and they knew that this once-in-a-lifetime task had to be done by someone who could instantly grasp what they envisioned.
Imagine their delight when they met Livspace interior designer Pulkit Manchanda who did just that! With the right pick of furnishings and stunning accents, this contemporary family home exudes utmost comfort and boasts fresh style.
A set of canvas paintings and a pair of distressed gold flower fixtures adorn the walls. Subtle damask prints on the wallpaper further enhance the beauty of the space.
Living rooms are meant for making the best impressions and Pulkit went for a delectable brown and beige palette. Growing kids at home call for easy-to-maintain furniture and so a pair of mid-century inspired chenille sofas were chosen. A colorful, tufted diwan brings in some drama while providing extra seating.
The cozy, plushly padded accent chair is the perfect spot for Harpreet to relax and unwind with a book
With its creamy brown and off white hues, the master bedroom feels blissfully comforting and works as a much needed respite for the working couple. The large bed comes with storage and offers a clutter-free approach to bedroom design.
The teenager’s room is a nod to industrial style with its exposed brick wallpaper and the wall-mounted penny farthing cycle.
Sahej was insistent on having his room styled in classic whites. Pulkit opted for a minimalist and elegant design, with a whiff of industrial, thus shaping a handsome space for him to spend his day in or have his friends over.
Floating shelves and a study table with drawers provide plenty of scope for keeping books, stationery etc. organized.
Dark tiles highlight the hob area and contrast beautifully with the rest of the glass mosaic backsplash.
The kitchen is the busiest hub of the home, where Preet along with the kids whip delicious meals. Handle free drawers give a seamless look to the kitchen, outfitted with a variety of modules such as Blum drawers, a tall unit, see-through cabinets, modern appliances like hob and chimney etc.
Every corner of the home is thoughtfully designed. The dead space above the crockery unit is brought to life with a metal tree accent piece. The prayer nook is simple yet stylish with its intricate jali boundary and a shelf to keep essentials.
The striped wallpaper and tortilla brown roman blinds pair beautifully with the already existing dining set. The metal leaf accent adds a touch of zing to the vignette.
An array of beautifully cut mirrors and a glass-top center table add sheen to this stylish, monochromatic family lounge.
The bedroom-converted-family lounge is designed to give the family a private space to relax when there are guests at home. Pewter grey paint and a cerused wallpaper, divided by trims, create an attractive accent wall.
Pulkit understood the importance of a striking entryway and chose a French provincial console topped with attractive accents. A delicately carved mirror completes the look.
It was great fun working out fresh design ideas that worked well with the family’s needs and preferences. Classic colors when juxtaposed with glam accents gave the home a unforgettably regal touch — exactly the effect I was going for.
