Rajan and his wife Namrata have lived in their beloved home at the Residency, Dwarka for more than 10 years now. But their home was desperately calling for a makeover. They come across our Experience Center when they were looking for an interior designer in New Delhi and walked right in with pictures of their home. They wanted their 3BHK to get updated interiors with more breathing space. Our designer Guneet Murugan excitedly took over the mammoth house makeover task.

How did it go about? For starters, Guneet pulled down the walls of a bedroom adjacent to the living room and converted it into a family room. She stayed clear from dark colours, expanded the windows, and put in Italian stone flooring  to create a brighter look. Also, she broke down the chajja from the bedrooms and the space is larger by 2ft more! Their home is now cosy, comfy, and definitely more spacious! Let’s take a look.

Ample seating

The living room is decked up in soothing greys. From the tufted three-seater to two bucket sofas and the striking blue armchair, the space is all about comfort. Moreover, the recessed false ceiling with spotlights brings in a touch of warmth. For a little depth, our designer put in textured wall paint that runs as the backdrop of this room.

Notice the curtains? While the home came with recessed and arched windows and balconies, the curtains had to fit the curved alignment perfectly. As a result, Guneet had the rods and curtains specifically made to fit the windows.

A zesty family room

Rajan and Namrata call their second living room as the family room. This is where their entire family can sit comfortably, catch up and watch TV together. Moreover, we love how the pop of yellow from the sofa-cum-bed adds a peppy vibe to the room. The family space also doubles up as a guest room too. In addition, a sliding door with a wooden frame and glass panels replaced their existing door to create an airy vibe.

The TV unit with open shelves and built-in wardrobe with lofts are in dark oak membrane to give the look more depth. Wrapping up the look is the same textured wall paint from the living room.

Dine in Style

The ambience-enhancing false ceiling runs to the dining room as well. And that’s not all. Lighting plays a major role in the dining room. With two accent lights and a contemporary floor lamp, the space is alive and subtly glitzy. A minimal round glass top centres the nook with grey upholstered chairs.

Besides this is a built-in crockery unit that’s all about fine detailing. The oak membrane-finished unit features shelves at the top and handle-less drawers towards the end. Notice how it’s been fitted with spotlights to flaunt the elements within? We love all these subtle details to elevate the ambience of the room!

A classy in neutrals kitchen

Just like the rest of the home, the kitchen underwent major civil changes as well. While the earlier kitchen stood in an exhaustive U-shaped layout, the swanky new kitchen is in a parallel layout that works well with the family. The choice of high gloss laminate for the upper and lower cabinets elevate the look of the kitchen. The wall cabinets are in an elegant cappuccino hue while the base units are in pearly white. A black granite countertop seals the deal.

For additional storage, she put in a tall unit with frosted glass door and drawers of various sizes. She also put in spice pull-out, cutlery trays, and vegetable baskets.

While Guneet opened up their existing window to be larger, the whites from the floor, wall and cabinets contribute to the overall brightness of the kitchen.

Greys & Beiges for the Master Bedroom

Rajan and Namrata’s bedroom is an ode to calming neutral colours. Guneet put in a grey POP panel for the centre wall. Furthermore, it’s been fitted with a provision for LED lighting on either side. So the couple could either choose from the pendant lights or the lights from the panel for reading.

Notice how they opted out of having traditional bedside tables? Guneet put up wall-mounted drawers on either side of the bed to create a clutter-free look. This step also creates an illusion of more space. The TV unit with plenty of storage to stash magazines and knick-knacks is in a dark brown membrane. In addition, the wardrobe in the corner and the mounted drawers are in the same membrane finish. We love how the arched top balcony creates a little drama in the bedroom.

Happy blues for the son’s bedroom

There’s no second guessing about the son’s favourite colour when you walk into his bedroom. While the room is doused in happy blues, it also complements the remaining whites and greys of the space. The centre wallpaper flaunts a geometric pattern to keep the bedroom energetic. The study table is perfectly placed under a window so that he could work peacefully. The wardrobe, tv unit and study table as well are all in light oak membrane to give an illusion of a bigger space. In addition, Guneet also replaced the bedroom door with a sliding version to optimise space.

Just like the master bedroom, this room too has a balcony with an arched top, this time dressed with a flowing blue curtain.

Bright Passageway

The passageway outside the bedrooms was initially a store room that wasn’t just working out for the family. But it’s now a corridor with a tall wardrobe and a large shoe cabinet on the opposite side. Both units have been topped off in a light oak membrane to keep the space bright and clean. In addition, the wardrobe has been fitted with with an ironing station as well for optimum space utilisation.

“It was a pleasure to see the home turn around after the remodelling of spaces and finishing thereof. We managed to create a well-lit spacious looking, practical & cheerful home for Rajan Nanoo and his family to cherish. Working together, we achieved this beautiful and cosy home!”
